Election Workers

Opportunities to volunteer or do paid work to ensure safe and proper elections in Carteret County every election cycle

Elections require paid staff and volunteers from our community in order for the election to run smoothly, and for every voter to be able to exercise their right to vote!

Here are ways you can be involved, we need everyone!

Poll Observer Democratic Volunteers (VoPro):

  • Indoor and Outdoor Observers are needed to witness voting operations during Early Voting and on Election Day, as well as the public Board meetings and official proceedings.
  • Training is required for Indoor Observers (1-2 hours on Zoom, available now); sign up schedule starts in September.
  • Outdoor Observing is different from Electioneering (volunteering at a Democratic table outside the polling site), but is often coordinated together.
  • Observer training is available now at NCDP’s youtube site. Live training will be announced in September and October.
  • For more information contact VoPro lead Catherine Elkins 252-515-4799, celkins143@gmail.com

Paid Election Workers:

  • In addition to the four full-time election staff at Board of Elections, hundreds of poll workers are hired each year by Carteret County. Training is required, this is a temporary paid position.
  • Full information is available at the BOE website.
  • In 2026, please be sure to complete an employment application at Board of Elections (1702 Live Oak St, Beaufort) by Labor Day.

Electioneering Volunteers:
